Devil’s Food Cake

Devil’s Food Cake Recipe
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups flour
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup butter, softened, divided
2 large eggs
3 tsp. vanilla extract, divided
1 package (16 oz.) powdered sugar
5 tbsp. milk
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 8 inch cake pans.

2. In small bowl, combine 1/2 cup cocoa and 1/2 cup hot water; mix well. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk in small bowl. In small bowl, combine flour, cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg; mix well.

3. In large bowl, combine granulated sugar and 1/2 cup butter. Beat with electric mixer on medium speed until fluffy. Beat in eggs.
4. Add coca mixture; beat well. Beat in flour mixture alternately with buttermilk mixture. Mix in 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Spoon into cake pans.
5. Bake 35 minutes. Cool 10 minutes.

6. In medium bowl, combine remaining butter, powdered sugar, remaining coca, remaining vanilla and milk. Beat on low speed until smooth. Spread between layers and over top and sides of cake.
